Top secret German commando training elite Afghan police: IRNA

RIA Novosti

Berlin, Jan 15, IRNA -- Germany's top secret KSK commando is training a new elite unit of the Afghan police force in the northern part of the war-stricken country, the weekly news magazine Der Spiegel said Saturday.

KSK troopers are instructing police recruits of the Provincial Response Company which is being used to hunt down Taliban leaders.

The first group of Afghans have completed their training program which started in May, and are already joining multinational military missions in the Kunduz area.

The next training session is scheduled to begin over the next weeks.

According to IRNA office in Berlin, the Afghan interior ministry has requested the KSK to also assist in the formation of elite security forces in the northern Afghan provinces of Balkh and Baghlan.

Founded in 1996, the KSK structure is similar to Britain's Special Air Service (SAS) and the US Special Operations Forces (US SOF).
