MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (NNS) -- Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton's (NHCP) security department completed training and weapons qualifications Dec. 21 for the auxiliary security force (ASF), a force that provides extra security to aid the hospital's security department in the event of an increased force protection requirement.

The ASF training is two weeks long with an additional three days of weapons training.

"If the force protection here at the hospital changes, for example, if we change from force protection condition alpha plus to force protection condition charlie or delta, we would need extra security forces to safely secure area 27 and the hospital," said Master-at-Arms 1st Class David Ochsenfeld, the Security Department's leading petty officer.

The 16 Sailors who completed the training were taught sentry duties, entry control, basic room clearing procedures, vehicle and personnel inspection procedures, mechanical advantage control holds and the use of pepper spray and the expandable baton.

Because of the constant personnel turnover, ASF training is conducted at the hospital two to three times a year to maintain the number of ASF personnel needed.

"I've learned different tactical movements, submission movements and working with weapons," said Seaman Apprentice Sherneka Daniels, an ASF candidate from information management. "The experience has been great. I love it. Everyone needs to join."

For more information about the hospital's ASF contact the Security Department at (760) 725-1602.
