GAZA, December 26 (RIA Novosti) - Two Palestinian militants were killed in a clash with Israeli troops on Sunday in southern Gaza, a spokesman for local medical services said.

The Islamic Jihad militant group said its two members were killed by the Israeli troops when they tried to lay explosives on the Gaza Strip border.

Several tanks and armored vehicles backed up by helicopters hit the militants in Huza'ah, a small Gaza village east of Khan Younis. The Israel Defense Forces later confirmed hitting the militants.

Palestinian media said Israel Air Force warplanes bombed suspected smuggling tunnels on the border with Egypt on Saturday. Last week Gaza's militants fired 30 rockets into south Israel, causing damage to property and livestock.

The radical Islamic group Hamas said earlier the group was observing a truce with Israel in Gaza but was ready to resume hostilities in response of Israeli attacks.
