ANDROS ISLAND, Bahamas (NNS) -- U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 133's Seabees worked on the Atlantic Undersea Testing and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) facility on Andros Island, Bahamas, from Oct. 18 to Dec. 6.
The project the NMCB 133 Seabees worked on was an 8,800 square foot Marine Industrial Facility (MIF).
Construction on the facility began in July 2010 by NMCB 74.
When complete, the building will house the boatswain's locker, the marine electrical shop, outboard motor shop, overhaul shop and marine supply. These shops play a key role in supporting the submarine training missions of the AUTEC.
The MIF is the latest Seabee project on Andros Island, and it consists of a pre-engineered steel building with a concrete block exterior. NMCB 74 began erecting the pre-engineered steel building, laid the concrete block exterior walls and placed the concrete bond beam on top. NMCB 133 built upon NMCB 74's progress by completing the pre-engineered steel building frame, installing the standing seam metal roof, flashing, vents, walk-in doors and roll-up doors. NMCB 133's pride and professionalism were evident in the high quality and consistency of their craftsmanship.
While on station, NMCB 133 also conducted a beach cleanup, removing approximately five cubic yards of trash from a one-mile section of beachfront and woods.
