Russian financial aid to S. Ossetia to constitute quarter of 2011 budget
14:33 16/12/2010 MOSCOW, December 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russian financial aid to South Ossetia will make up a quarter of the former Georgian republic's 2011 budget, the republic's information committee said on Thursday.
The draft budget of over 10 billion rubles ($325 million) was approved by the South Ossetian government on Thursday.
"This sum includes 2.5 billion rubles in Russian financial aid for the republic's social and economic development and also 6.9 billion rubles in financial aid for investment," South Ossetian Finance Minister Irina Sytnik said.
Russia recognized South Ossetia and another former Georgian republic, Abkhazia, two weeks after a five-day war with Georgia in August 2008. The war began when Georgian forces attacked South Ossetia in an attempt to bring it back under central control.
