USS GUNSTON HALL, At Sea (NNS) -- The amphibious dock landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) held a change of command ceremony at sea Dec. 7.
During the ceremony, Capt. John F. Meier relieved
Capt. Mark H. Scovill as commanding officer of Gunston Hall.
The change of command was held in the well-deck of Gunston Hall off the coast of Florida while the ship was conducting high-tempo maritime security operations in support of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group's Joint Task Force Exercise, the final certification event for the carrier's upcoming deployment.
"In all my years in the Navy I have never seen a change of command like ours, and it's appropriate," said Meier. "This is where Sailors belong - out to sea".
Meier's previous assignment was as executive officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). He also previously served as commanding officer of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136 in Atsugi, Japan.
Scovill's next assignment will be as commander, Amphibious Squadron 8 in Norfolk.
