SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The commanding officer of San Diego-based Mine Countermeasures (MCM) Crew Constant was relieved of command Dec. 8 by the commodore of Mine Countermeasures Squadron (MCMRON) due to misconduct.
Capt. Robert Hospodar, commodore, MCMRON, found that Lt. Cmdr. James Rushton, commanding officer MCM Crew Constant, violated the Navy's fraternization policy by engaging in an unduly familiar relationship with a subordinate female member of his crew.
Hospodar also relieved Lt. Cmdr. Anne Laird, the executive officer of MCM Crew Constant, Dec. 8 due to misconduct.
The decision to relieve Rushton and Laird comes as a result of an investigation into a violation of the Navy fraternization policy.
Cmdr. Robert Smith, chief staff officer, MCMRON 2, will temporarily command MCM Crew Constant until a permanent replacement is named.
Rushton, who had been in command since December 2009, is being temporarily reassigned to administrative duties at Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet.
