US drone kills four 'foreigners' in NW Pakistan

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Islamabad, Nov 22, IRNA -- US drone aircraft fired missiles into Pakistan's North Waziristan tribal region Sunday killing at least four foreign militants, security officials in the region said.

The pilotless plane fired two missiles on a vehicle near Mir Ali, a main town in North Waziristan, the officials said.

They did not say anything about the nationality of the victims.

The vehicle was completely destroyed in the strike, the second in the area in three days.

On Friday, US spy planes killed at least 3 people.

Sources said that the drone targeted foreign militants in North Waziristan for second time in a week.

On November 16, three foreigners and 15 others were killed in drone strike.

Data showed that it was the 102nd strike of the US drone planes this year which increased the number of the death to nearly 820 people.

North Waziristan is the stronghold of Taliban militants and CIA said al-Qaeda members are also hiding in the region.

Besides several groups of Pakistani Taliban, Haqqani network run by Sirajuddin Haqqani son of the former Taliban minister Jalaluddin Haqqani, is also based in the region, said the CIA.

The groups are also accused of sending fighters to Afghanistan for attacks on US and NATO forces.

According to a report by the Washington Post, the US was considering expansion of drone strike beyond the Pakistani tribal regions.
