NATO withdrawal delay means continuation of war: Taliban
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, Nov 22, IRNA -- Afghan Taliban dismissed as ‘irrational’ NATO decision to stay in Afghanistan till 2014 and said that delay in the withdrawal of foreign ‘invading troops’ from Afghanistan would continue the ‘meaningless, imposed and unwinning war’.
Leaders of Nato's 28 states on Saturday backed a strategy to transfer leadership for the fight against the Taliban to Afghan forces by the end of 2014.
Nato's Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in Lisbon the Taliban would not be allowed simply to wait for foreign forces to leave, saying Nato would remain committed.
“The real solution of the Afghan issue lies in withdrawal of the foreign forces. Hence the NATO decision to start withdrawal of military forces from Afghanistan in 2014 is an irrational decision because until then, various untoward and tragic events and battles will take place as a result of this meaningless, imposed and unwinning war,” Taliban said in an emailed statement.
“The bottom line for them is to immediately implement what they would ultimately have to implement though after colossal casualties. They should not postpone withdrawal of their forces even be it for one day,” the statement released by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
He said the people of Afghanistan are not ready to tolerate foreign invasion and occupation of their country even if it is for one day because of their firm determination, adding, “Nor they feel exhausted in the way of the sacred Jihad and the struggle for independence”.
The Taliban spokesman said the people of Afghanistan will not remain silent even for a single night until and unless the goal of complete freedom and formation of an independent government is achieved. “They will not wait for the time of implementation of a given decision or timetable of withdrawal”.
