FM: Misunderstandings with Nigeria resolved

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 15, IRNA -- Misunderstandings between Iran and Nigeria over the smuggled weapons were solved, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Monday.

He said that the misunderstandings were made by enemies to damage Iran-Nigeria ties.

Mottaki made the remarks in a joint press conference held here with visiting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Zalmay Rasul.

Mottaki said, 'The Iranian national working for the private company' involved in the issue has 'provided Nigerian officials with necessary explanations and I believe the existing misunderstandings about the issue were now removed.'

The Iranian minister stressed that his recent visit to Nigeria was a 'short working visit' made in line with his four-nation tour to the Western Africa.

However, Mottaki said that he discussed the issue of the smuggled weapons in a meeting with his Nigerian counterpart.
