From Commander, Submarine Group 9 Public Affairs

BANGOR, Wash. (NNS) -- USS Ohio (SSGN 726) (Blue) held a change of command ceremony aboard Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor Nov. 10.

Capt. Brian Humm relieved Cmdr. Theodore Schroeder as commanding officer.

"Ohio is a great ship, with a great crew," said Humm. "I'm proud to be here."

A native of Park Ridge, Ill., Humm comes to Ohio from U.S. Strategic Command, where he served in the Capability and Resource Integration Directorate.

Previously, Humm commanded the Los Angeles-class fast attack submarine USS Buffalo (SSN 715) and served as Blue Crew executive officer for the Trident ballistic missile submarine USS Florida (SSBN 728, now SSGN 728).

Ohio is the first of four Trident ballistic missile submarines converted to guided-missile submarines, all of which are key elements of the Navy's future fighting force. All four – Ohio and USS Michigan (SSGN 727), based at Bangor, and Florida and USS Georgia (SSGN 729), based at Kings Bay, Ga. – made history earlier this year when they were forward deployed away from their homeports for the first time.
