Islamabad, Nov 8 ,IRNA -- President Asif Ali Zardari Sunday reiterated that Pakistan wants early resumption of the composite dialogue process with India which India suspended after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
President Zardari made the call during the visit of President Obama to India , who urged New Delhi and Islamabad on Sunday to take forward the dialogue process for resolution of their disputes.
“The Mumbai attack has undermined efforts for peace. Pakistan is cooperating in unearthing and bringing to justice the perpetrators of militant acts,” President Zardrai told members of the South Asian Free Media Association.
Indian had blamed Pakistan-based ‘Lashkar-e-Taiba’ for planning the Mumbai attacks, which began on 26 November 2008 and lasted until 29 November, killing at least 173 people and wounding at least 308.
On Saturday Pakistan handed over another dossier to India on the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, formally asking India for the visit of a probe commission, the Foreign Ministry said.
In the 13th dossier Pakistan has also given detailed and formal information on the proposed 26/11 commission and has requested India to facilitate the visit of the proposed commission.
Pakistan has also sought further information from the Government of India to facilitate the ongoing trial in Pakistan .
The Indian government says that the attackers came from Pakistan, and their controllers were in Pakistan. Although Pakistan condemned the attacks, the attacks strained relations.
“The democratic civil government went out of the way in our peace overtures towards India. It would have been most helpful if our initiatives had been welcomed and responded to in a positive manner,” President Zardari said.
President Zardari said that he wants to implement her slain spouse Benazir Bhutto’s vision of a peaceful South Asia through economic integration adding “we are for strengthening SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) and are ready to relax tariff and non-tariff barriers on a reciprocal basis”.
Commenting on Pakistan’s fight against militancy, he said that 'from the very outset we faced the challenge of militancy but we came out in the open against militants and took them head on.' The undeclared policy of running with the hare and hunting with the hound was abandoned, the President said.
