From The Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command

CASABLANCA, Morocco (NNS) -- USNS Henson (T-AGS 63) hosted hydrographers from the Kingdom of Morocco Oct. 19, as the ship visited the port of Casablanca on the way to a new assignment.

"The visit by USNS Henson and embarked hydrographers from the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) continues a long tradition of cooperation between the Royal Moroccan Navy and U.S. Navy in the fields of hydrography and nautical charting," said Cmdr. Brian Connon, Deputy Hydrographer of the Navy.

Henson is one of six oceanographic survey ships that NAVOCEANO operates. It conducts operational ocean and hydrographic surveys for the Navy throughout the world and is forward deployed for its entire life.

The ship visited the port of Casablanca, Morocco, on Oct. 18 and 19, and NAVOCEANO civilian hydrographers conducted tours of Henson's oceanographic and hydrographic equipment for 16 members of the Royal Moroccan Navy. Another 60 members of the Royal Moroccan Navy were treated to a reception on board Henson that included U.S. Counsel General Elisabeth Millard.

The visit included a tour of the Royal Moroccan Navy Hydrographic Division for members of the Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command (NMOC) and the Naval Oceanographic Office. NMOC is the parent command of NAVOCEANO.

"This is another example of the close relationships that exist among the U.S. Navy's oceanography enterprise and the hydrography offices of foreign navies. These types of relationships help build friendships and close working relationships throughout the world," said Rear Adm. Jonathan White, NMOC commander.
