UN Security Council Condemns Herat Attack

October 25, 2010

The United Nations Security Council has condemned an attack on a UN compound in Afghanistan.

A statement agreed on October 24 said the Security Council condemned "in the strongest terms" the attack on October 23 by four armed militants in the western city of Herat.

The militants were killed in the incident, but there were no other deaths and no UN staff were wounded.

The Security Council statement added that member nations of the Security Council "reiterate their steadfast support for the role of the United Nations in Afghanistan," and called for bringing "perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors" of acts of terrorism to justice.
