GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (NNS) -- The Commander, Navy Region Southeast (CNRSE) Regional Training Team (RTT) assessed Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba's installation readiness during a base-wide active shooter drill Oct. 21.
RTT members helped identify strengths and weaknesses in installation readiness through a simulated active-shooter scenario, including a lockdown of the base's junior/senior high school campus, first-responder reaction times, and the sounding of base warning sirens.
The drill required cooperation from the U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the naval station's security, port operations, training, public affairs and fire departments.
"In this drill, the [base] demonstrated their capabilities and integrated training during an active-shooter type of scenario," said Hank Bugbee, CNRSE N71/Readiness and Requirements. "We document the capabilities of the installation to perform during real-world exercises to provide a snapshot to [CNRSE]."
The CNRSE RTT assesses all installations in the region annually and as requested.
