Karzai admits receiving Iranian cash aid for Afghan reconstruction
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Oct 25, IRNA -- Afghan President Hamed Karzai on Monday confirmed Iran's financial contribution to Afghaninstan reconstruction, thus nullifying western media propaganda against Iran.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Imomali Rakhmon, Karzai said, 'Iran's cash aid is made available to Afghanistan officially and through legal channels.'
He strongly defended his office head Amr Davodzi, who has been accused by New York Times, saying his sense of patriotism has led New York Times to target him.
He noted that over the past nine years, many countries have helped Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran is not an exception.
'The help is offered officially and Davodzi takes the assistance on my order,' he said.
Addressing reporters he said, 'New York Times has acted on its own national interests. They want to disrepute us.'
New York Times recently accused Head of Karzai office, Omar Davodzi, of receiving cash from Iran's Ambassador to Kabul.
Iran's Embassy too in a statement on Monday rejected the report.
'Such baseless rumors are raised by certain section of western media to confuse public opinion and damage solid relations between governments and nations of Iran and Afghanistan,' it added.
