NORFOLK (NNS) -- Commander, Amphibious Squadron 8 relieved the command master chief of the Norfolk-based amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) Oct. 21 due to misconduct.
Capt. John G. Bruening, commander, Amphibious Squadron 8, relieved Command Master Chief Robert W. Stocklin.
The relief occurred after an investigation into allegations that Stocklin had an ongoing, unduly familiar relationship with a female member of the ship's crew.
Stocklin was taken to a nonjudicial punishment proceeding Oct. 21 for fraternization.
Stocklin, who had been command master chief aboard New York since Aug. 21, 2009, has been temporarily reassigned to the staff of Amphibious Squadron 8.
New York is currently in port at Norfolk Naval Station.
