VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (NNS) -- The Center for Security Forces (CENSECFOR) announced Oct. 18 the upcoming release of the new Master Homeland Security Specialist Apprenticeship (MHSSA) for Navy Master-at-Arms (MA) professionals.

The MHSSA is a master level trade for enlisted personnel E7-E9 and officers designed to recognize the management expertise and skillful implementation of programs including antiterrorism, asset and personnel protection, physical security and emergency management.

"Another outstanding product from our friends at CENSECFOR," said Capt. Tito Arandela of the Naval Expeditionary Combat Command. "Their superb efforts and diligence in serving our community never ceases to amaze me."

The new apprenticeship program, approved by the Department of Labor, is scheduled for availability through the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP) website.

USMAP allows for registered certification of a Sailor's military training and work experience to achieve recognition equal to his/her civilian counterpart.

"Personnel are not required to have completed either the Police Officer or Security Specialist Apprenticeship to participate in the MHSSA," said Cmdr. William Hommerbocker, CENSECFOR director of functional integration. "This apprenticeship provides another opportunity for personal and professional growth on top of our newly approved security specialist apprenticeship for journeyman level professionals, and numerous Homeland Security and antiterrorism related certifications available through Navy COOL [Navy Credentialing Opportunities On-Line]."

Navy COOL is a resource explaining how Navy service members can meet civilian certification and license requirements related to their ratings, jobs, designators and occupations.
