FM spokesman: Iran's policy to back Afghanistan's legal government
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, Oct 19, IRNA -- Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Iran’s policy was to back the legal government of Afghanistan.
Talking to press and media, he made the remarks in reference to the recent proposal of the Canadian foreign minister to Iran suggesting bilateral cooperation on the Afghanistan issue.
He stressed the Iranian government supported the Afghan government’s attempts to fight drugs trafficking, saying that the reconstruction of Afghanistan was a top priority with the Iranian government.
He believed frank attempts should be made to uproot insecurity and violence in the country.
He further pointed to the good cooperation which existed between Iran and Canada on situation in Afghanistan, noting that unfortunately this collaboration stopped because of some unfriendly and non-constructive positions adopted by the Canadian government.
Iran was ready and keen to have cooperation with Canada on the Afghanistan issue provided it abandoned such an attitude and corrected its positions, the spokesman reiterated.
Mehmanparast went on to dismiss the remarks of the Iraqi politician, Ayad Allawi, who has accused Iran of trying to destabilize Iraq, stressing that Iran favored formation of a powerful and dignified cabinet in Iraq with a strong public support which could bring security and development to the country.
Turning to Iran-Turkey relations, the spokesman highlighted the many common points the two countries shared.
He said both countries were certainly mature enough to follow a rational path enabling them to leave grave impacts on international issues in a bid to replace the present unfair trend of affairs with a just and right one.
Asked to comment on the refusal of London’s Heathrow airport to provide fuel to Iranian airplanes, he said certain Western companies have unfortunately adopted a wrong practice by doing so which was explicitly in contrast with international aviation regulations.
He recommended such companies to abandon such practices because they would not be in their benefit in the long-term.
Iran will never tolerate such practices and will encounter these companies, he added.
