SIGONELLA, Italy (NNS) -- Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Sigonella welcomed aboard fuels professionals from across Navy Region Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia Oct. 10.

This personnel realignment was part of a larger agreement to transfer Alongside Aircraft Refueling (AAR) operations at 28 air stations from Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) to Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (COMFISCS), a component command under Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP).

With these new additions, the FISC Sigonella fuels team is now comprised of 80 military and civilian personnel at its sites in Rota, Spain; Souda Bay, Crete, Greece; Sigonella, Italy; and Bahrain.

FISC Sigonella commanding officer Capt. Dana Weiner views the transfer "as the best way to leverage NAVSUP's petroleum management and supply chain management expertise, and align the CNIC fuel operations with other Navy and DoD fuel programs."

Lt. Peter Vapor, fuels officer in Sigonella, was pleased with the change to align fuels operations under FISC Sigonella.

"Today, my Sailors witnessed the high standard of professionalism, genuine level of support and resounding spirit of teamwork that is FISC Sigonella. We are proud to be part of FISC family."

FISC Sigonella, the newest of seven supply centers under COMFISCS, provides operational logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and other Joint and Allied Forces in Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia. Services include contracting, material management, household goods movement support, consolidated mail, fuel, global logistics and husbanding, hazardous material management, and integrated logistics support.
