SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded a $124.3 million contract Sept. 28 to Webcor and R.A. Burch, of Ramona, Calif., for the design and construction of multiple operational and community facilities aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton.
The projects include new facilities for 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), including a 200-room bachelor enlisted quarters.
"This is a very complex project, with 13 facilities over three separate sites, including a new fitness center and single Marine center for the entire community," said Carol Davis, NAVFAC Southwest project manager. "The team has worked hard over the last year to make this award happen, but there's still a lot to do. I am excited and proud to have a part in providing these new facilities to the units."
The new Reconnaissance Battalion and ANGLICO complexes will provide facilities needed to train Marines, store their gear, and maintain their equipment. The relocation of the 1st Recon Battalion will promote less travel time to their duty stations, allowing for more leisure time and will ease the strain for those Marines working to accomplish their mission.
Work will be performed in Oceanside, Calif., and is expected to be completed by spring 2013. NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity.
