ATSUGI, Japan (NNS) -- Members from the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Recruiting Directorate in San Diego visited Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi Sailors Oct. 5-6 to discuss opportunities in the Navy Special Warfare community.

"We are bringing awareness to both the SEAL and SWCC [Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman] community and the opportunities for enlisted members and officers to further their lifestyle," said Special Warfare Boat Operator 1st Class Beau Cambone, NSW Recruiting Directorate leading petty officer.

The visit marked the first time representatives from Naval Special Warfare Recruiting Directorate San Diego traveled to Japan to discuss with fleet Sailors the requirements and expectations prospective special warfare community members might encounter.

"I'm here to make sure that the guys that want these programs, and that are highly interested in them are armed with the best information to prepare themselves properly for when they arrive week one, day one at our training," said Chief Special Warfare Boat Operator Brian Inglis, NSW Recruiting Directorate San Diego In Fleet recruiting chief.

NSW Recruiting Directorate San Diego personnel also stressed the qualities future candidates need possess to successfully complete the rigorous training regimen and thrive within the special warfare community.

"Motivation," said Cambone. "I want people that care, are smart, energetic and self starters. I want the guys that think outside the box."

The NSW Recruiting Directorate San Diego scout team also shared their experiences and left NAF Atsugi Sailors with information about the programs.

"The biggest thing I like to tell these guys is the mind will tell you what your physical limitations are but your heart will be what takes you to the next level," Inglis said. "If their hearts aren't into these programs they will find it very difficult to be successful."
