Berlin, Sep 23, IRNA -- Germany is to send 90 military instructors to Afghanistan to train the security forces of that country, news reports said here Thursday.
The German government has stepped up its efforts to train the Afghan military.
There are around 4,700 German troops based in northern Afghanistan and Kabul.
The top commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) General David Petraeus had earlier called on Berlin to send in additional soldiers instead of airmen.
The overall cost of training and equipment of Afghan security forces is to reach 11.5 billion US dollars this year, according to US officials.
In other related news, Germany plans to pull out its Tornado reconnaissance fighter jets from Afghanistan.
The Tornado jets, which take aerial photographs, were stationed in Afghanistan in 2007.
