Soldiers and people carry injured people to a military helicopter after a roadside bomb attack killed a number of people traveling aboard a minibus near the village of Gecitli in the rugged Hakkari province bordering Iran and Iraq, Turkey, 16 Sep 2010.
Turkish security officials say an explosion has ripped through a minibus in southeastern Turkey, killing at least 10 people on board.
The blast happened Thursday as the bus was traveling near the village of Gecitli in Hakkari province, on the border with Iran and Iraq. The explosion left four others injured, including a 15-month-old baby.
Some local reports said the bus hit a land mine, while others suggested it was a remote-controlled explosive device left in the road.
No group claimed responsibility for the explosion.
Kurdish separatist rebels from the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, have carried out similar attacks in the past, mostly against Turkish security forces. The rebels recently declared a cease-fire, but violence has persisted in the region.
The PKK has been fighting for autonomy in southeastern Turkey for more than two decades. The fighting has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people.
