SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- USS Sampson (DDG 102) held a change of command ceremony in San Diego Aug. 25.

Cmdr. Tripp Hardy was relieved by Cmdr. Christopher Alexander during the ceremony held aboard ship.

The ceremony marked the end of a 21-month tour for Hardy.

Hardy praised the efforts of the crew and their overall performance during his command of Sampson.

"Sampson's success is a direct result of the crew's hard work and dedication to accomplish any mission we were assigned," said Hardy.

Hardy's tour on Sampson included an eight-month maiden deployment followed shortly by extended underway time for Rim of the Pacific and Nimitz Strike Group exercises.

Hardy will report to Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet where he will serve in a staff position.

Alexander, a native of Key West, Fla., is reporting to Sampson after serving on the Joint Staff as a branch chief in the Space and Missile Defense Division and the Strategic Operations Division.
