From Commander, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 1 Public Affairs

CORONADO, Calif. (NNS) -- Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit (EODTEU) 1 held a change of command ceremony at Naval Base Point Loma, Calif., Aug. 26.

Cmdr. Kyle S. Moses relieved Cmdr. Martin A. Anderson as commanding officer of EODTEU 1.

Keynote speaker and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, Rear Adm. Michael P. Tillotson, remarked on the tremendous responsibility and success Anderson had in sustaining warfighter readiness.

"The pride we all have in our commanding officers and their accomplishments is paramount, and to be able to share that with family is extremely gratifying," said Tillotson. "Remember that these Sailors around you are the ones who train your sons and daughters to go into harms way and be successful. Extremely well done, EODTEU 1."

The unit's primary mission is to provide advanced training to EOD mobile units and Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 1 as they prepare for deployment.

Awards received by EODTEU 1 during Anderson's tenure include the Navy Unit Commendation and fiscal year 2009 Pacific Fleet Retention Excellence Award. Anderson attributes his success to the hard work of the Sailors from EODTEU 1.

"You are this command. As good as it is it is all because of you. Does everybody get that? Because of your care, your concern, your dedication, your sweat and sometimes your blood. You guys have poured everything you've got into this command," said Anderson. "This is why you are here, so all of the students and techs that come through here will make it back home."

Anderson is a designated EOD warfare officer and master EOD technician, receiving his commissioning through the limited duty officer program in 1993. He received his Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University and his Master of Science from the University of San Diego. His next assignment is to Naval Mine Anti-Warfare Command in San Diego

EODTEU 1 is a subordinate command of EOD Group 1 and provides operational EOD capability as required for the location, identification, rendering safe, recovery, field evaluation and disposal of all explosive ordnance including chemical and nuclear weapons, up to the high water mark of coastal and inland water areas and within the boundaries of naval activities in southern California.
