PANAMA CITY (NNS) -- MSRON 4 provided classroom instruction and practical application training to more than 50 multinational forces on the subjects such as search and rescue, boarding and confiscation, entry control point methods and tactics, and combat first aid.

Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Jared Butler, patrol leader throughout PANAMAX, said the participants seemed to enjoy the training they received on navigation and high speed maneuvering.

"The SENAN [Panamanian Sea and Air Service] guys seemed to enjoy themselves during our training exercises," he said. "When they came out on the water with us, I think the capabilities of our craft, such as speed and maneuverability really impressed them."

Engineman 2nd Class Kenneth Freudenvoll said training with helped the Panamanians hone their skills in waterborne self-defense maneuvers.

"During our underway period with the Panamanian personnel, the interaction was great as far as helping them understand a little about how we operate and giving them training on how to better operate within their military," Freudenvoll said. "They also got a look at how we conduct operations."

PANAMAX is one of the largest multinational training exercises in the world, involving more than 2,000 personnel from 18 nations in this year's exercise. The annual exercise series focuses on ensuring the defense of the Panama Canal, one of the most strategically and economically crucial infrastructure systems in the world.
