CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (NNS) -- Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic awarded a $22.2 million contract to DCK of North America Aug. 16 for construction of new facilities for the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, N.C.

The Infantry Training Battalion and the Advanced Infantry Training Battalion currently train at Camp Geiger, located inside the overall Camp Lejeune complex in buildings that date back to the 1940s.

This new complex allows for the use of contemporary training technology, along with more room to better train the nearly 22,000 Marines that will come to the facility each year.

Sustainable design will be integrated into the design, development and construction of the project. The buildings will achieve Leadership in Energy and Design (LEED) Silver certification.

NAVFAC manages the planning, design, construction, contingency engineering, real estate, environmental and public works support for U.S. Navy shore facilities around the world, providing the Navy's forces with the operating, expeditionary, support and training bases they need.
