USS DUBUQUE, At Sea (NNS) -- Senior Kuwaiti and U.S. military officers visited USS Dubuque (LPD 8) for a tour of the ship and lunch hosted by the ship's commanding officer Aug. 2.

Distinguished guests included Kuwaiti Assistant Undersecretary for Border and Security Affairs, Maj. Gen. Mohamed Al-Sabah; U.S. Air Force Office of Military Cooperation Kuwait Chief, Brig. Gen. Gregory Touhill; and Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 5, Rear Adm. Sinclair Harris.

During the luncheon, Harris emphasized the interaction between the two nations' militaries afloat and ashore and the importance of fostering a stronger relationship between the United States and Kuwait.

"The brotherhood, the camaraderie and the kinship between the U.S. and Kuwaiti militaries is critical," Harris said. "We hope to continue to increase the amount of training we already do with the Kuwaiti Navy and Marines and to include the Kuwaiti Army and the Coast Guard border patrol in future training."

Harris also thanked Dubuque Commanding Officer, Capt. Christopher Bolt, and his crew for their efforts and hospitality.

According to Harris, Dubuque served as a great platform to host the event. Not only is the ship an extremely capable platform, but it has a lot of history behind its more than 40 years of service.

"Dubuque has a history of serving the United States that spans from the Vietnam War to combating today's global threats. She is a mature ship and brings proven capabilities to today's global maritime environment," said Bolt. "We were proud to show our U.S. Navy counterparts and the Kuwaiti government and military officials that we are trained and ready to contribute to the maritime capability in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility."

Dubuque is part of the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
