From Commander, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 1 Public Affairs

CORONADO, Calif. (NNS) -- Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit (EODESU) 1 held a change of command ceremony at Naval Amphibious Base July 15.

Cmdr. George E. Bresnihan relieved Lt. Cmdr. Ronald W. Zitzman as commanding officer of EODESU-1.

"Your tour as commanding officer of Expeditionary Support Unit One is marked by mission success, personal accomplishments and an improved quality of life for every member and their families in your command," said Commander, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group (EODGRU) 1, Capt. Theodore Lucas in his keynote speech.

Zitzman attributed the work of his Sailors as the reason for command success.

"Team, your hard work and attitude has inspired me each and every day," said Zitzman. "Your list of accomplishments is long and your job could not be more important. You never let me or our nation down."

EODESU-1 is a logistics support command of 140 personnel from 23 different ratings that provide continual operational and logistical support to EODGRU-1 forces consolidated in Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.

Zitzman was commissioned in 1999 through the Navy's Limited Duty Officer program. His next assignment is to EODGRU-1.

EODESU-1 is a subordinate command of EODGRU-1 and provides operational EOD capability as required for the location, identification, rendering safe, recovery, field evaluation and disposal of all explosive ordnance including chemical and nuclear weapons, up to the high water mark of coastal and inland water areas and within the boundaries of naval activities in Southern California. The unit was commissioned Oct. 3, 1983.
