BAE Systems Opens Service And Support Facilities In Afghanistan

Farnborough, UK -- BAE Systems has opened two new facilities dedicated to service and support services in Afghanistan.
The new facilities, along with today’s announcement at Farnborough International Airshow of a new global readiness & sustainment strategy, are helping to ensure BAE Systems is supporting its customers’ missions and requirements.
The new facilities are located in Bagram and Kandahar and will provide complete maintenance and service capabilities in support of the company’s products in theatre.
“BAE Systems’ new facilities will provide U.S. troops with one-stop vehicle maintenance and service shop,” said Robert Houston, vice president and general manager of readiness and sustainability for the BAE Systems’ Land & Armaments businesses. “We have taken our capabilities and put them on the ground in Afghanistan to further enhance the readiness of our products.”
The new 16,000 square foot readiness and sustainment centres will initially provide the U.S. Army with work areas to maintain the RG33 Special Operations Command vehicles, but will expand to include all of the company’s products in service with the U.S. military in the region.
The buildings provide dedicated space for workers to perform maintenance tasks, mid-level fabrications, service and repairs. Each facility is fully outfitted to provide these services. Additionally, the facilities feature training classrooms to assist soldiers in the field as well as living quarters for workers.
