Berlin, Jul 19, IRNA -- German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Monday reiterated the stabilizing role of Afghanistan's neighboring countries.
Talking to a local Berlin radio station, Westerwelle hailed the planned presence of Afghanistan's neighbors at a key international conference on the war-stricken country, due to take place in Kabul on Tuesday.
He voiced optimism that all regional countries had an interest to defeat terrorism in Afghanistan to enable what he labeled "a stable development" in that country.
Westerwelle will head to Kabul on Tuesday to attend a conference of some 60 envoys from NATO states, including US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN chief Ban Ki-moon, where delegates will seek ways to hand more power to the Afghan governments amid record-breaking violence, German foreign ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke told the press in Berlin.
Peschke termed the confab "very important" in terms of transferring security
responsibilty to the Afghan government and army.
Berlin plans to start its withdrawal from Afghanistan next year and complete it
by the end of 2013.
