Unprecedented Accomplishment for Israel Aerospace Industries: All the Divisions of Its Systems Missiles and Space Group, Awarded the Highest Level Rating (5) for the Internationally Recognized Capability Maturity Model Integration
Jul 19, 2010
The Yehud Campus of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), which houses IAI's Systems Missiles and Space Group and includes the Missiles, Space, TAMAM, and Technologies Divisions, has been awarded a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level (ML) 5 rating.
This is an unprecedented international recognition – for the first time, an entire group of an Israeli industry is rated at Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 5 -the highest rating possible.
Prior to the Yehud Campus' CMMI ML 5 achievement, the MLM Division of IAI's Systems Missiles and Space Group was separately appraised and awarded a CMMI ML 5 for the second consecutive time, making MLM the first division in Israel to receive a Level 5 rating twice consecutively.
Following an intensive and complex 10 day appraisal, the Yehud Campus' divisions were rated as satisfying the requirements for CMMI ML 5, the "Optimizing Level". The rating was awarded in systems, software and hardware engineering, project management, organization management and logistics and supply chain management.
The CMMI is a process improvement framework that provides organizations dealing with system development the essential elements to improve their ability to build and maintain quality products and services, and is awarded by the Software Engineering Institute at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh USA.
This certification places the Systems Missiles and Space Group within the prestigious and exclusive group of international companies that meet the rigorous requirements of a CMMI Level 5 rating. These companies include Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and the British concern BAE. Fewer than five percent of all rated companies achieved ML 5 in 2009.
Yossi Weiss, Corporate VP of IAI and General Manager of the Systems Missiles and Space Group, said: "As a leading global technology group, we are committed to the high quality and optimal performance of our products for our customers in Israel and abroad. Our ability to meet these high standards reflects our excellence in the field."
General Manager of the Technologies Division, Brigadier General (Ret.) Ilan Bitton, who led the group to this accomplishment, said: "The CMMI's continuous improvement reflects the company's ongoing efforts as a "learning organization", and our commitment to provide the best value to our customers. This success is groundbreaking in its extensive scope of so many different disciplines, demonstrating our commitment to process improvement across all divisions of the Systems, Missiles and Space Group. This is a signature accomplishment on a national scale."
The Systems Missiles and Space Group develops and produces cutting-edge technologies in the fields of missiles and offensive/defensive weapon systems; space systems, including satellites, launchers, and control rooms; command and control stations; advanced electro-optic observation systems; and navigation and location systems - demonstrating the group's excellence in systems development and design, manufacturing, testing and deployment.
Among the divisions of the Systems Missiles and Space Group is the prime contractor of the "Barak 8", an anti-ship missile defense system, the "Amos" communication satellite series, the "Ofeq" observation satellite series, the "Arrow" anti-ballistic missile system, and others. These systems are in operational use in a number of countries and serve as a central tool for its end users.
The sales of the Systems Missiles and Space Group in the first quarter of 2010 reached $220 million, compared with a total of $193 million in the same quarter of 2009 – an increase of 14 percent.
