London, July 17, IRNA -- Two British servicemen have been killed in separate explosions in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province, the Ministry of Defence announced Saturday.
One soldier died in a blast in Nahr-e Saraj district on Saturday, while a marine was killed while on foot patrol in Sangin district on Friday, it said.
The latest deaths push the number of British troops killed in Afghanistan since the overthrow of the Taliban regime in 2001 to 320, including 75 alone so far this year and 31 since the beginning of June.
The latest casualty figures also show that the number of British soldiers being injured has reached an average of two per day in the past two months.
The number classified as seriously and very seriously injured more than doubled to 69 up until June 15 this year compared with 30 in the first six months of 2009.
More than 250 British soldiers were listed as wounded in action in the first five-and-a-half months of 2010 up from 143 in the first half of last year. There has also been over 550 aero-medical evacuations.
