Another British soldier killed in Helmand
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
London, July 14, IRNA -- A Royal Marine has been shot dead by small arms fire while on foot patrol in Helmand province, Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in London announced Wednesday.
The MoD earlier confirmed that three soldiers were also killed on Tuesday “in a suspected premeditated attack by a member of the Afghan National Army, using a combination of weapons” in southern Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand province.
The latest marine death was in the remote area of Sangin, where British troops have suffered almost a third of their 318 total fatalities and are due to be replaced by US forces later this year.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister David Cameron condemned the “appalling” killing of three British troops by a renegade Afghan soldier but stressed UK and Afghan troops should continue to work together
The training of local forces to take over security is part of the UK’s exit strategy from Afghanistan although questions were raised after five British troops were killed and six others injured in their compound by an Afghan policeman last November.
