SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Beginning in August, the Navy will implement a self-service, paperless electronic leave system that will help safeguard personal information and cut processing time in half.
According to NAVADMIN 103/10, Self-Service Electronic Leave (E-Leave) is a web-based program that Sailors access through their Electronic Service Record and is projected to provide a significant savings in manhours and processing time.
"This will eliminate the paper trail because it is all done through [Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System] (NSIPS)," said Yeoman 1st Class (SW) Mike Trisler, Navy Region Southwest (NRSW) administrative officer. "Also, by eliminating the paper trail the service members personnel information isn't being passed around."
Trisler explained how the program works and how it puts the responsibility on the Sailor to control their leave.
"Sailors have the ability to monitor their leave as it is sent through the chain of command and is notified once the request has been approved or if there is a need for more information," Trisler said. "Once approved, the member will check-out/in using NSIPS, ultimately charging his own leave."
Trisler added that shore commands will start using the program Aug. 1 and once the ship's NSIPS systems are updated it will implemented.
For NRSW training will be conducted for command leave administrators to ensure all personnel know and understand the new system. The training dates are as follows:
• July 13 - Naval Air Facility El Centro
• July 14 - Naval Base San Diego
• July 15 - Naval Base Coronado
• July 16 - Naval Base Point Loma
• July 19 - Port Hueneme
• July 21 - Naval Air Station Lemoore
• July 23 - Naval Air station Fallon
