PEARL HARBOR (NNS) -- Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment is participating in Exercise Rim of the Pacific 2010 (RIMPAC) in Pearl Harbor June 23 to Aug. 1.
Under the command of Maj. Shane Murphy and Company Sgt. Maj. Master Warrant Officer Brad Hulme, Golf Company is being exercised in non-combatant evacuation operations.
The training prepares the Golf Company to respond to a request from Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) should Soldiers be required to assist in the evacuation of Canadians or selected non-Canadians from potentially hostile parts of the world. These operations can involve the use of maritime, air and/or land assets depending on the situation.
Exercise RIMPAC 2010 is a multinational exercise designed to prepare forces to work together in a coalition setting. A wide range of potential operational scenarios, including humanitarian assistance and disaster response assignments will test the forces of various nations.
This year's exercise consists of 14 nations, 32 ships, five submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 20,000 personnel. Participants include Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Peru, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand and the United States.
