US drone kills 10 in Pakistan's tribal region
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Islamabad, June 30, IRNA -- A US drone aircraft struck Tuesday a house in Pakistan’s South Waziristan tribal region and killed at least 10 people, a correspondent in the region said.
Two missiles hit the house of a local tribesman at Jakhel Karez, a small village, some seven kilometers from Wana, the center of South Waziristan, a Wana-based journalist Shehzadin said on phone.
He told IRNA that the strike destroyed the house and a vehicle.
The area is under the control of Taliban group, led by Mulla Nazir.
The correspondent said that the Taliban militants surrounded the attack site and removed bodies and injured to undisclosed location.
It is the second US drone strike in South Waziristan in a month.
On May 28, US drone strike killed 11 militants and wounded three others in the Nazai Narai area of South Waziristan.
Tuesday's strike was the 219 drone attack since August 2008 in the restive tribal areas of Pakistan that the US believes to be a safe heaven for fugitive Taliban operatives generally associated with al-Qaeda.
