SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) San Diego, a Naval Supply Systems Command component under Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (COMFISCS), held a change of command ceremony June 25 aboard the aircraft carrier museum USS Midway in San Diego.

Capt. David Pimpo relieved Capt. Glenn Robillard during the ceremony.

"As FISC San Diego's commanding officer, Rear Adm. (Select) Robillard has been exemplary in every aspect of leadership and performance," said Rear Adm. Mark Heinrich, COMFISCS, who was the guest speaker. "From day one, he has demonstrated positive, enthusiastic leadership and unmatched strategic vision and communication skills."

Today is the start of a new and exciting phase of the command's history under Capt. Pimpo and his senior leadership team," said Heinrich. "FISC San Diego will continue to play a critical role in our global logistics network. I am confident that under his leadership, FISC San Diego will continue to uphold its legacy and reputation as a world-class service provider of top-notch logistics services which contribute to the defense of our nation."

As commander, Pimpo will oversee nearly 700 personnel operating out of 15 sites that provide logistics support and services to all Navy shore installations in the Southwest region and all ships home ported in San Diego.

"My pledge to the men and women of FISC San Diego is that your leadership, both officer and enlisted, will work tirelessly for you and your families while ensuring Sailors and civilians alike get the guidance, training and resources needed to execute our vital mission," said Pimpo.

The ceremony's location holds special meaning for Pimpo. His late father-in-law was a naval aviator who served on the Midway, taking off and landing on the same flight deck where Pimpo took command. Pimpo also served two of his three sea tours on aircraft carriers, each recognized for supply excellence during his tenure.

Pimpo is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a master's degree in business administration from the Darden Business School at the University of Virginia. He also completed the Wharton Business School Executive Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a qualified surface warfare supply corps officer and naval aviation supply officer.

In his time as commander, Robillard oversaw numerous historic events for FISC San Diego, including relocation of the command to Naval Base San Diego, the largest ever fuel-related military construction project and establishment of distance support for a new class of littoral combat ships.

"To all my officers, Sailors and civilian employees, where do I start," said Robillard. "From San Diego to Fallon, from Ventura County to El Centro, and everywhere in between, it has been an incredible journey and I owe it to all to you. The extent of what you all do everyday is eye-watering. I couldn't be prouder of your individual and collective accomplishments. Thank you all."

Robillard was selected for promotion to rear admiral, and in July 2010 will report as commander, Naval Exchange Service Command.

FISC San Diego, one of seven supply centers under COMFISCS, provides global logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command and other joint and allied forces. Services include contracting, regional transportation, fuel, material management, household goods movement support, postal and consolidated mail, warehousing, global logistics and husbanding, hazardous material management and integrated logistics support.

COMFISCS comprises more than 7,000 military and civilian logistics professionals operating as a single cohesive team providing global logistics services from 135 locations worldwide.

COMFISCS is part of a worldwide logistics network of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel providing combat capability through logistics.
