DCNS at BALT MILITARY EXPO 2010, Gdansk, Poland, 23-25 June 2010

DCNS will exhibit at BALT MILITARY EXPO 2010 which will be held in Poland from 23 to 25 June 2010.

DCNS is a leading player on the world market for value-added naval defence systems. As a naval prime contractor, shipbuilder and systems integrator, DCNS combines resources and expertise spanning the naval defence value chain and entire system lifecycles. DCNS delivers innovative solutions from integrated warships to strategic systems, equipment and services.

The DCNS stand showcases:

• DCNS expertise in submarine design and construction, through the Scorpene medium-size submarines. Already chosen by the Indian, the Chilean and the Malaysian Navies, Scorpene submarines represents the state-of-the-art in submarine design and construction and benefits from the latest technologies developed for nuclear-powered classes operated by the French Navy, particularly as regards acoustic discretion and combat system performance. Excellent endurance makes the Scorpene one of the few medium-displacement designs suitable for extended ocean patrol duties. The modular design can also be readily tailored to each customer's specific mission profiles and other requirements. The Scorpene contract between the Indian shipyard Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL) in Mumbai and DCNS involves the construction under licence of six Scorpene submarines, associated technology transfers and the sale of combat systems. The first pressure hull of the first submarine is now completed and the structures are well advanced. Construction of the second submarine started in 2008, is progressing quickly. Construction of the third submarine already started. DCNS will complete this year the delivery of combat system equipment for the first submarine, the following ones will be delivered one every year.

Concerning Chile, the Carrera and the O'Higgins are now operational and homeported at Talcahuano and in Malaysia, the first of two Scorpenes, KD Tunku Abdul Rahman, was handed over to the customer in January 2009 as the first submarine ever in service in the Malaysian Navy. The second, KD Tun Razak is expected to sail for its SAPANGAR home base in May this year.

DCNS track records in Transfer of Technology include four conventional-propulsion submarines for the Brazilian Navy. The technology transfer programme covers design assistance - under the Brazilian Navy's design authority - for the non-nuclear portion of Brazil's first nuclear-powered submarine and assistance for the design and construction of both a naval base and a naval shipyard.

• DCNS is drawing on 50 years' experience as a designer and builder of nuclear-powered submarines to develop the new-generation SSN Barracuda combining the latest advances in acoustic discretion and nuclear propulsion. Barracuda nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) is a key component of the French Navy's force projection assets. This programme calls for the delivery of six nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs). The construction of the first and second Barracuda submarines started at the DCNS Cherbourg shipyard respectively in December 2007 and in June 2009. The Barracuda is one of the most important programmes for the renewal of France's naval forces.

• The Andrasta, a compact submarine designed to operate in coastal waters, a theatre of growing importance to all maritime nations. Being also a fearsome adversary in deep water, Andrasta combines a state-of-the-art design with stealth, agility and power. A direct descendant of the Scorpene, the Andrasta is remarkably effective in any underwater role in coastal waters that a client navy may wish to assign to it.

• SUBTICS® combines operational efficiency, high-performance sensors and long-range weapons. The system can be readily added to any new-build programme or integrated as part of a refit. It has been selected by several navies for Scorpene and Agosta 90B submarines, as well as for modernisation programmes for submarines already in service.

• The F21, next-generation heavyweight torpedo for the French Navy. DCNS has signed in April 2008 a contract for the development and production of an hundred of F21. This torpedo is designed to enable French submarines to knock out enemy surface combatants and submarines. As such, it will replace the current-generation F17 Mod2 torpedo. The F21, taking advantage of the most advanced innovative technologies in development for heavy-weight torpedoes, is able to reach a maximum speed superior to 50 kts and has got a range of more than 50 km. Moreover, this torpedo is compliant with the most demanding norms of safety imposed by the nuclear submarines.

• The projection and command ship or Mistral LHD is a multipurpose surface vessel designed to cover a broad spectrum of missions, including amphibious operations, crisis management, airborne operations, operational command, operational transport, healthcare support, humanitarian operations and freight transport. The operational capability and interoperability of the Mistral LHD were demonstrated in Operation Baliste off Lebanon and on sea trials with the US Navy (involving the LCAC and Super Stallion).

• DCNS Mine Warfare solutions range from platform-independent unmanned vehicles to fully equipped-platforms such as conventional new "Mine Combat Vessel" (MCV), and the "Multi-Role Cutter" (MRC) for stand-off MCM operations, up to the build-up of a total turnkey MCM force. Thus, taking benefits from large experience gained in the design, construction and long-term support of the modernised "Eridan" -class MCMVs, and from international customers operational expertise acquired worldwide, DCNS offers comprehensive and incremental solutions adapted to the Polish requirement.
