6/23/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 22, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Chahar Bagh, Regional Command - South West
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force and conducted strafing runs.
Soltani, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and Coalition forces. F-15E aircrews released precision-guided munitions against an enemy weapons bunker and eliminated a threat to friendly forces. F-16C pilots conducted a show of force over suspected enemy personnel to deter enemy activity when Coalition forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.
Konduz, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews released precision-guided munitions against an enemy target identified by joint terminal attack controllers. The engagement was declared successful.
Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews and U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. F-15E aircrews released precision-guided munitions against several enemy positions, including an enemy sniper position, a cave and an enemy exfiltration route. F-16C pilots released a precision-guided munition to suppress enemy activity during a friendly helicopter operation. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly-forces dismounted patrols and convoys. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity when convoys reported enemy fire then released a precision-guided munition against an enemy fighting position in the vicinity of friendly dismounted patrols. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the actions successful.
Sangin, RC-SW
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces patrol that reported enemy fire. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity followed by several strafing runs when enemy forces moved to a treeline position. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful when no further enemy activity was observed.
Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly ground patrol. Pilots conducted a show of presence, which ground control determined successful.
Almar, RC-N
Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted shows of force and a show of presence, with flares launched, to deter further enemy activity when friendly forces reported taking sporadic enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the actions successful.
Shahidan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force over suspicious personnel to deter enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the show of force successful when no enemy activity was observed.
Mushan, RC-S
U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, which ground control determined successful.
Airlift Action
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
