
Health Official Killed in Northern Afghanistan

Officials say the head of the public health department in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province has been killed in a bombing.
Provincial officials say a bomb was planted in Azizullah Safari's private clinic. At least two others were wounded in Tuesday's attack.
In eastern Afghanistan, the interior ministry said Tuesday a female suicide bomber attacked a police post in the Shigal district of Kunar province the day before, injuring 18 people, including three police officers.
Suicide bombings are a common tactic used by Taliban and al-Qaida-linked militants, but women rarely carry out the attacks.
In southern Afghanistan, NATO says a joint NATO and Afghan force captured the Taliban's recently-appointed chief of finance for Baghlan province during an operation in Helmand province late Monday.
NATO says a small-arms attack killed one of its soldiers in the south on Tuesday.
Ten NATO soldiers were killed in separate attacks and a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Monday.
Meanwhile, U.S. special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke continues his visit to Afghanistan. He met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Monday and also visited Kandahar province.
