Turkish officials say a remote-controlled roadside bomb in the city of Istanbul has blasted a bus carrying soldiers and their families, killing at least four people.
Provincial governor Huseyin Avni Mutlu said Tuesday around a dozen more people were wounded in the attack. He said two are in critical condition.
Turkish media say the dead include at least two soldiers and the daughter of another. The bus was traveling in the Halkali district, which includes a military housing complex.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
The attack comes a day after Turkey began a major operation against Kurdish rebels along the border with Iraq.
Monday, elite commandos dropped from helicopters to surround rebels from the Kurdistan Workers Party, while infantry units and helicopter gunships targeted their suspected positions.
The military operation follows cross-border attacks that have killed 12 Turkish soldiers in the past two days.
