6/22/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 18, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Chahar Bagh, Regional Command - South West
U.S. Air Force MQ-9A Reaper operators provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces firing against friendly forces and released a missile against the enemy fighting position, which destroyed it. The engagement was determined successful.
Gereshk, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots, Coalition aircrews and a U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. F16 pilots conducted several strafing runs against enemy fighting positions after friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew supported friendly ground forces and released precision-guided munitions against an enemy position and eliminated another threat to friendly forces. The Coalition aircrew conducted a show of presence in between actions to deter enemy forces. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.
Asadabad, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and escorted a friendly convoy. When friendly forces came under attack from enemy forces, the aircrew released a precision-guided munition against the enemy position and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the action successful when no further enemy activity was observed.
Tirgari, RC-E
U.S Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. When aircrews observed enemy rocket-propelled grenade and small-arms fire directed against friendly forces, they released precision-guided munitions on the point of origin and eliminated the threat to friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.
Sangin, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with a flare, to deter enemy activity when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful when no further enemy fire was observed.
Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.
Konar River Valley, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.
Airlift Action
Helmand Province, RC-S
U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 176,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering 35,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Badghis Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 55,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
