6/22/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 20, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan

Musa Qaleh, Regional Command - South West
U.S. Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces and released a missile against the enemy position, eliminating the threat to friendly forces. The engagement was determined successful.

Asmar, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. F-15E aircrews were given confirmed coordinates for an enemy mortar position and released a precision-guided munition against the enemy position, which destroyed it and eliminated a threat to friendly forces. F-16C pilots released a precision-guided munition against an enemy fighting position when friendly forces reported receiving enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.

Gereshk, RC-SW
U.S Navy F/A-18C pilots and U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. A-10 pilots engaged enemy forces positioned in a tree line with cannon fire strafing runs and F/A-18C pilots engaged enemy forces with a strafing run. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful.

Qarah Bagh, RC-E
U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares expended, which ground controllers declared successful.

Khaval, RC-N
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy small-arms fire when the convoy reported taking enemy fire. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful.

Tirgari, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew was given coordinates for two confirmed enemy mortar positions and precision-guided munitions were released against the targets. Ground controllers declared the engagements successful when the targets were destroyed.

Sangin, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots and U.S. Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Pilots and aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.

Chahar Bagh, RC-SW
U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted shows of force, with flares launched, which ground control determined successful.

Durzay, RC-SW
U.S. Navy F/A-18C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, which ground control determined successful.

Sheykhabad, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted a show of presence to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the show of presence successful.

Airlift Action

Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew and a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 123,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.

Oruzgan Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 57,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
