THE PVP PERSONNEL CARRIER

Marolles, 14th June 2010

Panhard is unveiling a personnel carrier version of the PVP at the Eurosatory exhibition. The PVP APC (armoured personnel carrier), based on a regular French army PVP, has been raised by 150 mm so that six soldiers can be seated in addition to the two crew members. This version of the PVP, which has been delivered to Chili, should be attractive to many countries which take part in peace-keeping operations.

One of the main qualities of this vehicle lies in its comfortable interior. It has been designed to provide maximum space for personnel. Equipment can be attached easily to rails on the side panels which also enable the vehicle’s configuration to be modified. Although it is an armoured vehicle in the 5-ton class, the PVP is nevertheless much more manoeuvrable than its competitors in towns because of its size. An ambulance version, based on the PVP APC, has also been delivered to an export customer. The PVP APC is a vehicle for use in conflict zones and is very well suited to being driven through narrow streets. Thanks to its powerful engine and automatic transmission, it is also very well adapted to off-road use and has a good capacity for obstacle crossing. Tyre pressure can be modified from inside the vehicle which gives the PVP APC a notable advantage on loose soils.

Finally, the PVP’s ballistic protection is the result of highly-sophisticated studies and tests. The armour, composed largely of steel and aluminium, offers protection compliant with NATO Stanag 2 level (which corresponds to a 7.62mm munition and a 155mm shell fragment) which is unusual for a vehicle this size. Particular care was also taken regarding the threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and mines (NATO Stanag 2). Thanks to its protection, the PVP is extremely well suited to deployment on theatres of operation.

The French Army has ordered 930 PVPs worth €150 million of which more than 500 have already been delivered. Chili is the second PVP export customer after Togo

Panhard General Defense: Panhard General Defense has been designing and producing armoured vehicles for nearly a century, notably the Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV), 2300 of which are currently in service in 16 countries, and the PVP (small protected vehicle), with over 930 units ordered by the French Army. In 2009, Panhard made 90 million euros in turnover.
