6/14/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 12, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Asmar, Regional Command - East
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew, U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews and U.S. Air force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots supported friendly forces, friendly-forces patrols, friendly convoys and escorted helicopters during military operations. Aircrews and pilots released multiple precision-guided munitions against enemy fighting positions and eliminated threats to friendly forces. Later, F-15E aircrews and F-16 pilots conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter further enemy activity. Joint terminal attack controllers and ground controllers called the engagements successful.
Soltani, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly-forces convoy. Aircrews conducted shows of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity when the convoy reported taking enemy small-arms fire. Ground commanders declared the action successful.
Chahar Bagh, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly ground forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the show of force successful when enemy contact was broken and the patrol continued to its destination.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16 C pilots provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces supporting a town hall meeting. Pilots conducted a show of presence, which ground commanders declared successful.
Airlift Action
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering 88,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering 44,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Day Kundi Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Day Kundi Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 36,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Badghis Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Badghis Province, Afghanistan, delivering 42,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Herat Province, RC-W
U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrews flew combat-airdrop missions in Herat Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 20,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Oruzgan Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 34,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
