6/14/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 13, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
Soltani, Regional Command - East
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly dismounted patrol forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force to deter enemy actvity. Later, aircrews released precision-guided munitions and made strafing runs against enemy positions. Ground controllers called the engagements successful when enemy positions were destroyed and enemy fire ceased.
Asadabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Aircrews conducted a show of force, which ground commanders declared successful.
Tarin Kowt, RC-SW
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt III pilots, U.S, Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet aircrews and Coalition aircrews provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. Pilots and aircrews conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the shows of force successful when enemy activity ceased.
Orgun-E, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. The aircrew conducted a show of when friendly forces reported taking enemy fire, followed with a precision-guided munition against an enemy firing position that terminated the enemy fire. Ground commanders declared the engagement successful.
Karokh, RC-W
U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet pilots provided armed overwatch and close air support for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity in vicinity of ground forces. Ground commanders declared the action successful.
Airlift Action
Farah Province, RC-W
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Farah Province, Afghanistan, delivering 45,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew and a U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew combat-airdrop missions in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 123,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Oruzgan Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 28,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
