6/12/2010 - SOUTHWEST ASIA -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations June 10, according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.
Air Operations in Afghanistan
U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews released precision-guided weapons against an enemy weapons cache and destroyed it. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the engagement successful.
Asmar, Regional Command - East
Throughout the day a number of aircraft were in the skies over the Asmar area to include: U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle aircrews, a U.S. Air Force B-1B Lancer aircrew and U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots. Together they provided armed overwatch for friendly forces, convoys and friendly ground forces during military operations. Aircrews and pilots released several precision-guided munitions against enemy fighting and sniper positions at the request of friendly ground forces. Aircrews also conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter enemy action. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers confirmed the cumulative actions were successful.
Balocan, RC-S
U.S. Air Force MQ-1B Predator operators provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Operators observed enemy forces emplacing an improvised explosive device and released a missile, destroying the enemy position. Ground controllers declared the action successful.
Orgun-E, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch and reconnaissance for friendly forces and a medical evacuation operation. Aircrews conducted shows of force, some with flares launched, to deter enemy activity. Ground controllers declared the actions successful when no enemy activity was observed.
Asadabad, RC-E
A U.S. Air Force B-1B aircrew, U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews and U.S. Air Force F-16C pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces and a friendly-forces convoy. The B-1B aircrew released a precision-guided munition against an enemy fighting position when friendly forces reported enemy small-arms fire. F-15E aircrews conducted a show of force, with flares launched, to deter enemy activity near friendly forces. F-16C pilots released precision-guided munitions against multiple enemy fighting positions that were firing against a friendly forces convoy. Ground controllers and joint terminal attack controllers declared all the actions successful.
Tarin Kowt, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly ground forces. The pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy action during ground operations by friendly forces. Ground controllers declared the action successful.
Abchakan, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for Coalition and friendly forces. Aircrews released a precision-guided munition against an enemy fighting position when friendly forces reported taking enemy rocket fire. Ground controllers declared the action successful when no further enemy fire occurred.
Sheykhabad, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon pilots provided armed overwatch for Coalition forces. Pilots conducted shows of force to deter enemy activity during a medical-evacuation operation. When enemy forces resumed firing pilots released a precision-guided munition against the enemy firing position. Ground controllers declared the action successful.
Qalat, RC-S
U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots destroyed an enemy fighting position with a precision-guided munition. Joint terminal attack controllers declared the action successful.
Gardez, RC-E
U.S. Air Force F-15E aircrews provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces convoy. When the convoy reported taking enemy fire, aircrews released precision-guided munitions against the enemy position, which suppressed enemy fire while the convoy passed by. Ground controllers declared the engagement successful.
Chahar Bagh, RC-SW
Coalition pilots provided armed overwatch for friendly forces. Pilots conducted a show of force to deter enemy activity, which ground controllers declared successful.
Airlift Action
Zabul Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, delivering 70,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
Helmand Province, RC-S
A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircrew and a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircrew flew a combat-airdrop mission in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, delivering approximately 95,000 pounds of combat-sustainment supplies to friendly forces.
