IAI Presents JUMPER- Autonomous Artillery for the Ground Forces- at Eurosatory
Jun 10, 2010
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) will unveil a series of effective and affordable weapon systems at this year's Eurosatory Symposium & Exhibition in Paris, June 14th-18th, 2010 (Booth E-700). These systems share the common vision of affordability and precision, transforming "statistical" artillery into precision weapons. IAI's vision of future weapon systems stresses the ability to create highly precise systems that enable the support fire elements to do their jobs faster, more accurately and with much less collateral damage.
IAI is introducing 3 new members of the precision strike munitions family: JUMPER- Autonomous artillery, TopGun Course Correction Fuze, and Strikes accurate 122mm rocket.
IAI will present the JUMPER System – missiles that "jump" out of a vertical launch hive to precisely strike targets at ranges of up to 50 Km. Each JUMPER 3X3 hive contains eight canistered missiles and one integrated command and control unit. The system's overall dimensions are 1.4X1.4X2m, and it requires no operating crew and no special launching platform. Pinpoint accuracy and short time of flight make the JUMPER a perfect solution for the autonomous fire support to the ground forces. The missile is 1800 mm long, has a diameter of 150 mm, weighs 63 kg, and is equipped with a GPS/INS and 4 steering fins at its tail.
In addition, the missile can home to a laser designation. This allows for a significant effect against a variety of target types, especially in urban operations, in which collateral damage is a major concern. The missile is armed with several possible warheads for fire missions that require prompt and accurate responses.
The JUMPER system provides the maneuvering force commander with autonomous, immediate, and precise fire, regardless of weather and visibility conditions.
Major General (Ret.) Eyal Ben-Reuven, Deputy, Northern Command during the 2nd Lebanon War, said: "The JUMPER's unique mode of operation is very relevant to the asymmetric warfare characteristics of the complex battlefield under which the IDF (Israel Defense Force) and other modern armies have to operate. By using the autonomous vertical launch hive, the system allows for the investment of 90% of the budget in the end result rather than in platforms and personnel."
With the development of the JUMPER system, IAI leverages its capabilities in the areas of missiles and C4 systems integrated into unique, precise, operational effectiveness to best serve the ground forces.
